Joe Kadi wins Teaching Award

We are proud to announce that Joe Kadi, Women’s Studies Coordinator and Instructor, is a recipient of the 2019 Sustainability Teaching Award. The award recognizes “exceptional educators who systematically and continuously integrate sustainability into their classroom teaching, course design and/or assignments. These teachers prepare their students to make innovative contributions to the environmental, economic and social wellbeing of their local and global communities.”

In Fall 2018, Joe Kadi created and offered the first ever Eco-Feminism block week course at the University of Calgary. He developed unique partnerships with organizations to provide participants with an immersive learning opportunity, and an experience that one student described as “a ‘life-changing’ experience whose impacts radiate far beyond the classroom into their everyday actions and decision-making.” The course addressed topics as diverse as indigenous history, environmental justice, disability rights and food security, directly advancing the University’s Institutional Sustainability Strategy.
