2019 Undergraduate Essay Contest Winner

We are pleased to announce that Luke Neilson’s essay “Without Presuppositions, Silence” has won our 2019 Brian Grant Undergraduate Essay Contest. Karli Miller’s essay has received an honourable mention.

We thank all of the students who took the time to carefully consider and share their thoughts on this year’s topic: “It is sometimes thought that philosophy should aim to question everything and presuppose nothing; and it is sometimes replied that these ambitions can't be fulfilled. What do you think?”

The winner of the annual essay contest is nominated for the Brian Grant Undergraduate Award, established in honour of Dr. Brian Grant, professor of philosophy at the University of Calgary from 1968-2007.
