The visiting researcher will be a part of the Department of Philosophy and collaborate with a dynamic research faculty and graduate students. The Department of Philosophy is internationally recognized in logic and the philosophy of science and home to 22 professors, including a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in the philosophy of biology. The scholar will offer a combined seminar for senior undergraduate students and graduate students in his or her area of expertise, and will participate in departmental and interdisciplinary research groups while pursuing his or her own research projects. Assistant Professor, Philosophy/Linguistics
The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2014. A completed PhD and relevant teaching experience are required at the time of application. The required areas of specialization are Philosophy of Language and Metaphysics, and the required areas of competency are Formal Semantics and Logic. The successful candidate will be cross-appointed to the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures, and must be qualified to supervise students in the graduate program in Linguistics. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach a semantics course in the Linguistics program each year as part of the normal teaching load. We are seeking an individual with a strong research record who will be able to make a significant contribution to the graduate program in the Department of Philosophy. We are particularly interested in candidates with the ability to teach undergraduate classes in epistemology and the history of analytic philosophy.
