The Department of Philosophy invites applications for Sessional Teaching for Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 as noted below:  

Fall Term 2015: 
PHIL 201, "Mind, Matter, and God" - Lec 1, MWF 10:00-10:50
PHIL 201, "Mind, Matter, and God" - Lec 2, MWF 12:00-13:50

Winter Term 2016:
PHIL 201, "Mind, Matter, and God" - Lec 3, TR 12:30-13:45
PHIL 337, "Philosophy, Feminism, and Gender" - Lec 1, TR 11:00-12:15
PHIL 347, "Contemporary Moral Problems" - Lec 1, TR 1400-1515

To apply to teach any of these courses, a letter of application must be submitted to Merlette Schnell (schnell@ucalgary.ca) before Friday, July 31, 2015. Your letter should indicate specifically which course(s) you are applying for and in which term. You should also note the maximum number of courses you would be willing to teach in each term. If you are applying for more than one course in a term, rank your preferences.  A copy of your current cv (if not already on file in the Department Office) should accompany your application letter. Note: This teaching is offered subject to final budgetary approval.

2016-17 Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Logic or the Philosophy of Science

The University of Calgary is pleased to offer the opportunity for a Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Logic or the Philosophy of Science. The visiting researcher will be a part of the Department of Philosophy and collaborate with a dynamic research faculty and graduate students. The Department of Philosophy is internationally recognized in logic and the philosophy of science and home to 22 professors, including a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in the philosophy of biology. The scholar will offer a combined seminar for senior undergraduate students and graduate students in his or her area of expertise, and will participate in departmental and interdisciplinary research groups while pursuing his or her own research projects.  Specialization:  History and philosophy of science, mathematical and philosophical logic.  US $25,000 for one semester. The Department of Philosophy plans to offer PHIL 565/667, a combined senior undergraduate and graduate level seminar on "Topics in the Philosophy of Science: Issues in the Historical Sciences" in Winter Term 2016.  The course is timetabled to meet Mondays, 5:00-7:45 pm.  A completed PhD is required at the time of application.  To apply to teach this course, send a letter of application, a current cv and a  proposed course description to the Philosophy Department Manager, Merlette Schnell (schnell@ucalgary.ca), by Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
